No space for NFT Games in The upcoming Game Awards 2021, soon NFT Game Awards?
Lately, there has been a lot of talk on NFT’s, and their massive potential in the gaming industry. The talk of the town surrounds NFTs and one cannot simply evade it. Whether you like it or not you will come across NFT’s talks and NFT content.
It is being embraced by many and many other criticizes it. The Game Awards Geoff Keighley has made it clear that there isn’t any plan to give NFT’s any space in The Game Awards 2021. His thoughts on the issue appeared in his recent interview with Epic Games.
Geoff Keighley specifically stated that there won’t be any announcements or content related to non-fungible tokens in this year’s game awards. He said, “We’re not doing any NFT stuff.” He further shared his thoughts on the upcoming awards with Epic.
The Game Awards is an in-person event this year taking place at Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles. In addition, thousands will watch the show digitally from more than 40 live streaming platforms. This year’s award show will feature 40-50 games including new game announcements.
Keighley said, “It’s great to have celebrities, it’s great to have music, but I think focusing really on games is important.” He further said, “Especially this year, there’ll be a lot of content for 2022 and 2023 that will be showing us our kind of biggest lineup yet of world premieres and announcements.
“What we really learned last year was at the end of the day, it really is the games and the trailers that drive the show.”
In addition to games, we also expect trailers and teasers on movies that are based on games i.e. “videogame adjacent.” On videogame adjacent, Keighley said, “the awards are about half the show and the other half is the announcements and premieres.”
