Epic Games acquires musical game developer Harmonix and its game Rock Band.
Epic Games continues expansion for its future projects related to metaverse as well as Fortnite. Harmonix announced the news on its blog post and termed the day of joining the Epic Games family as ‘monumental’.
The music game genre is a popular one among gamers, many of us still reminisce the golden days of Guitar Hero. Harmonix took inspiration from Guitar Hero and took it up a notch and launched Rock Band.
Since its launch, Rock Band has witnessed astronomical popularity and gamers loved it for its four players mode. After the immense success of Rock Band, Harmonix continued with its splendid titles like Dance Central and FUSER.
Harmonix is one of the most significant figures in the music game genre which caught the attention of Epic Games. Epic Games has a lot going on in Fortnite and will definitely use Harmonix’s expertise to introduce music-related segments and games.
Harmonix shared its thought on the acquisition, “From the earliest days of The Axe to Guitar Hero, Rock Band, Dance Central, our VR titles, FUSER, and everything in between, we have aspired to redefine what a music game can be.
Now, we’ll be working with Epic to once again challenge expectations as we bring our unique brand of musical gaming experiences to the Metaverse, and we couldn’t be more excited.”
However, with the recent acquisition in place, what’s the future of ongoing projects of Har-monix?
Har-monix, in its blog post, said that it will carry on with its Rock Band DLC plans with a lot of new tracks on its way this year. As for the Rivals Seasons, Har-monix has plenty in line and is ready to release Season 25. Moreover,
Har-monix will remain available on Steam, and backend support for games will continue as always.
