League of Legends and Valorant In-Person Esports Tournaments to take place in Iceland.
Riot Games
Riot Games has decided to conduct in-person tournaments for LoL and Valorant in Iceland. The studio announced the news on Monday and further added that both tournaments are scheduled to take place in Reykjavik, the capital of Iceland.
League of Legends
The LoL Mid-Season Invitational (MSI) is among the scheduled tournament this year. LoL Mid-Season did not happen last year because to the global pandemic. However, this year, not only the MSI is on the cards but also it will be in-person for players. MSI is one of the most iconic and marquee esports tournaments that involve top teams around the globe to compete against each other. The event takes place on May 6th and finish on May 23rd.
Valorant
After the end of LoL MSI, the very next day Valorant Champions Tour Master Reykjavik will kick-off. The studio says that it is the first live international tournament of the game. In this tournament, 10 teams will go head to head to earn points to qualify for Valorant Championship 2021. Valorant Championship 2021 is the culmination point of Valorant esports and will conclude the season.
Esports & Pandemic
Esports games were affected big time by the global pandemic. For Valorant and League of Legends it is the same. Players had to compete virtually to ensure their and others’ safety. Riot previously held the LoL Championship in person in Shanghai with strict safety protocols in place.
Tournaments & Quarantine
For both tournaments, needless to say, teams will have to quarantine after arriving in Iceland. Moreover, Riot also confirmed that there won’t be any in-person audience. However, the good news is that all MSI matches and VCT Master stage 2 matches will be live-streamed.
Both tournaments will take place in Laugardalsholl Sports Center in the capital city of Iceland.
