Epic Games continues its shopping spree in 2021. Epic’s new acquisition includes Rad Game Tools and a shopping mall for its new headquarters, yup, a whole shopping mall that is.
The terms and conditions of acquisition are yet to be disclosed by both parties. Rad Game Tools is known for Telemetry, Oodle, BInk, and more and is now a part of the ever-growing gaming empire; Epic Games. Rad Game is a Washington based company that offers tools for game developers. These tools include Bink video codec, Telemetry performance visualization, and Oodle data compression.
Epic shared its thoughts on the acquisition, “Members of the Rad team will partner closely with Epic’s rendering, animation, insights, and audio teams, integrating key tech and improvements across Unreal Engine and beyond.” Epic further added, “Rad and Epic combining forces will allow even more developers access to tools that make their games load and download faster and offer their players a better, higher quality video and gaming experience.”
It is to be noted that acquisition doesn’t mean that Rad Game Tools won’t work for developers outside Epic. Rad Game Tools will have full liberty to work with developers not using the Unreal Engine. Rad has several products that are being used in approximately 25000 games.
Epic’s acquisition frenzy started in 2019 and till now Epic has acquired Agog Labs, Quixel, 3Lateral, Psyonix, Twinmotion, Cubic Motion, Houseparty, Hypersense, and SuperAwesome. To top it all, Epic recently acquired Cary Towne Center, a shopping mall located in North Carolina, as its new HQ.
Jason Davis, Managing Director at Turnbridge Equities said, “Epic shares our vision for transforming Cary Towne Center into a vibrant community space. This sale is further validation of our value-driven investment strategy, and the property could not be placed in better hands.”
Let’s see how the Epic’s shopping spree continues this year 2021.
