Well, who doesn’t know about Nielsen, it is a measurement and analytics firm that has a global reach. Nielsen released a report a couple of days ago about the most anticipated games this fall, and guess what, the three games which we talked about the most; Marvel’s Avengers, Marvel’s Spiderman: Miles Morales, and Call of Duty Black Ops: Cold War topped the list.

Gamescom it is, despite COVID-19, social distancing limitation, and going virtual, Gamescom opening night live was a major event and big success. The virtual mega event was a two-hour long show that showcased awesome trailers and important announcements that included everything from Fall Guys to upcoming Star Wars: Squadrons and COD: Black Ops Cold War. Let’s talk about some of the games that Gamescom revealed.
Fall Guys of Mediatonic is the title, and the cute little beans have taken over the PlayStation Network and they are unstoppable at the moment. Fall Guys has become the most downloaded game in the history of PS Plus. The Mediatonic juggernaut has sold more than 7million units on Steam and stats show total world domination of this game. It has taken the gaming world by storm in mere months.
Listen, it is official, there is a new Batman game in the town; Gotham Knights. If you haven’t watched the trailer yet, please do, I bet it will blow your mind. The trailer confirms that it will be a co-op game featuring Nightwing, Batgirl, Robin, and Red Hood. But the sad thing is that Batman is apparently dead and his allies are the ones who have to save Gotham this time.
Epic Games, Apple and the fight continues, poor Fortnite!
We have just witnessed a big showdown between Apple and Epic Games on Monday to settle the round 1 of their lawsuit war. Epic filed a restraining order against Apple, Apple planned to pull out Unreal Engine from its platforms, terminating Epic’s developer account and removal of Fortnite from iOS Store. Epic was of the view that it would be “irreparably harmed” if Apple executes its aggressive designs.
Unity has decided to go public when its arch-rival Epic is entangled in a legal battle against Apple. With 2 billion monthly active users and 1.5 million game creators, Unity is considered as a formidable competitor of Epic’s Unreal Engine. Despite the gigantic success of Unity, it hasn’t been all rainbows and sunshine for them.
Spotify and Riot Games are working to create and launch several new League of Legendspodcasts. Untold Stories: Top Moments from Worlds, a 9-episode series leading up to the 10th League of Legends World Championship this fall, will be the first. Listeners will be able to hear about the top players and anthems through game highlights, recorded interviews, game sound effects, and new interviews with key players. Thanks to our extended partnership, we look forward to evolving this podcast over the years to come.
Epic Games is successfully placing the ongoing dispute in the limelight by using an in-game event for Fortnite. As our audience already knows that Apple has blocked Fortnite from its App Store, consequently, iOS users cannot get any new Fortnite updates, so now at the end of the ongoing season, Epic Games is closing off with the #FreeFortnite Cup. Take Two, Cut! The developer of the mobile games Dots, Two Dots, and Dots & Co has reached an agreement with Take Two Interactive and now Playdot is considered acquired. The deal is concluded at $192M which Take Two Interactive will pay in $90 million cash and remaining $102 million in newly issued Take Two shares.
Tencent and Voodoo. Not a spell, an investment! When we talk about gaming empires and their expansion, Tencent is by far one of the most influential players in the gaming industry. Tencent’s expansion hasn’t stopped and it has acquired a minority share in Voodoo, a French game company. Tencent has now expanded in the domain of casual mobile gaming with the help of this deal. Though the funding amount is yet to be disclosed by the company Tencent has done it all form hefty checks to buy full control of studios like Riot Games to become a minority shareholder in Epic Games.

The report also sheds light on the dedicated gamers; of 3.1 billion people there are approximately 8% who are dedicated console players and this category has the record of highest per-user spending.

Epic Games is on a roll! Someone has decided to go “epic” and has said that enough is enough. In the last couple of days, Epic Games and Apple locked horns and now the courts are involved.
All hell broke loose when Epic Games introduced a new payment method in Fortnite which bypassed Apple and its 30% fee, and not just that Epic also offered discounts to players if they purchased directly from them.
But this step from Epic Games breached Apple’s App Store policies and in turn, Apple responded aggressively and went all out on Epic Games by completely removing it from their App store.

Tencent Holdings, according to various credible reports, wants to merge the two Chinese live streaming giants, Huya and DouYu. Resultantly, the shares of both these companies popped in response to Tencent’s idea.
Tencent Holdings, entertainment, and the tech giant has more than one-third share in both Huya and DouYu and wants to become the largest stakeholder of the combined live-streaming platform. The market capitalization of both Huya and DouYu is huge, both sitting at $5.9billion and $4.9billion respectively. And according to Reuters, if this merger happens it will also include Tencent’s e-Game streaming platform which is the fourth largest in China.
Epic Games, Epic Funding And Epic Future!
Epic Games is now valued at $17.3 billion after concluding an epic funding deal of $1.78 billion. This investment came in the form of primary capital as well as secondary purchases. To put it simply, some investors bought new shares while others bought shares from existing shareholders. Epic Games disclosed that the investment also included a strategic investment of $250 million from Sony, which was announced last month.
The investors that bought into the company are; Fidelity, fund, and accounts managed by BlackRock, Baillie Gifford, Light Speed Venture Partners, the Ontario Teacher’s Pension Plan Board, and Hedge fund manager David Tepper among others. Some of the existing backers also increased their holdings.

Call of Duty: Warzone has done it again, another release and yet another colossal surge in UK’s web traffic!
Gamers went crazy in the UK as Virgin Media observed a web traffic surge of 60% over the previous Wednesday, and according to them, a huge chunk of it was due to COD’s latest update of 48GB on PC. Virgin Media further told that during peak, the data being downloaded was 33.9GB every second, and all of them were Warzone patches. And according to them, “That is an additional 22 petabytes of data for the Monday to Friday period for a single ISP alone.” Staggering figures isn’t it.
A similar surge was recorded last time and that too due to COD, COD: Warzone mid-season 4 update on June 30th, just another day at the office for Call of Duty. Well, it’s all fun and games for you, the player but it isn’t all rainbows and sunshine for your ISP when you download updates, take the latest update of 47.4 GB, that accumulatively reached more than 200GB. Hey, you are paying for them, so why not, right?

In the galaxy of multi-billion dollar gaming industry, where money flows like a river, Nintendo’s net profits year-on-year have grown by over 500% thanks to Animal Crossing: New Horizon and Nintendo Switch.
Animal Crossing: New Horizon is being loved by a vast majority of gamers; it sold over 22 million copies and become second best-selling Switch game after Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, which sold 26.74 million units.
Microsoft’s early cutting off of xCloud’s iOS testing has put a question mark on its future on Apple devices. The xCloud game streaming test ended a bit too earlier than expected for iOS devices yesterday.
Microsoft was conducting these tests on iOS in a very limited fashion for quite some time now but didn’t make any concrete announcements on the release of xCloud on iOS. The only announcement made by Microsoft, earlier this week, in this context was for the Android platform.
