PS5 is the Fastest Selling Game Console

Game Console PS5 is the Fastest Selling after reaching the 10 Million Mark.

Sony Interactive Entertainment announced on Wednesday that the PlayStation 5 console has sold more than 10 million units worldwide since its release in November. With this official figure out, PS5 has become the fastest console to reach the 10 million sale milestone in Sony’s history.

It took PS5 249 days to achieve 10 million sales after its launch in November last year. Its predecessor PS4 took 271 days to reach the same number. However for PS4, up till now, it has sold more than 115 million units in almost eight years. PS4 is still relevant as it is still actively supported and manufactured by Sony.

The PS5 figure is astonishing given that it is still hard to get and running short on supply. Jim Ryan, president and CEO of Sony Interactive Entertainment said, “While PS5 has reached more households faster than any of our previous consoles, we still have a lot of work ahead of us as demand for PS5 continues to outstrip supply, I want gamers to know that while we continue to face unique challenges throughout the world that affect our industry and many others, improving inventory levels remains a top priority for SIE.”

Furthermore, Sony has also shared stats of its games where Spider-Man: Miles Morales sold more than 6.5 million copies, Ratchet and Clank: Rift Apart sold 1.1 million copies in one month. And lastly, Returnal has sold approximately 560,000 copies since its release in April.

As for Xbox, Microsoft stopped sharing sale figures in the Xbox One era. However, Daniel Ahmad, a senior research analyst at Niko Partners, shared estimated figures for Xbox Series X and S on Twitter.

According to him, “total sell-in was 6.5m as of June 30, 2021.” If that is the case then Xbox Series X and S estimates are up from the previous 5.7 million for Xbox One and 5 million for Xbox 360.
