Near Protocol’s Blockchain Operating System will Assist Game Developers and Gamers
Near Protocol launches its blockchain operating system, which will aid game developers and enhance the user experience in Web3.
Finally, some good news for game developers, as Near Protocol announces the release of a new blockchain operating system. The decentralized application (DApp) near protocol announced the web3 and innovation festival ETHDenver 2023. The near protocol aims to enhance user experience on Web3 by using a shared layer for browsing and finding open web content.
According to Polosukhin, co-founder of Near Protocol, the platform is meant to serve as a base for finding Web 3 products such as cryptocurrency exchanges, non-fungible token (NFT) collections, and social media. The operating system will be adaptable to all blockchains (currently supporting the Near Protocol and Ethereum Virtual Machine chains). Near Protocol will serve as the universal entry point.
The Near team claims that the technology integrates with any blockchain or Web2 backend, giving consumers the feeling of using a single app even while navigating between different apps or chains. The solutions offer to provide decentralized and flexible frontends for developers, allowing the forking of bits and components as well as built-ins like payments, profiles, and alerts without any hosting being required.
Blockchain Operating System Features by Poloshukin
“The iOS provides developers a place to show their app in front of billions of users, and it gives them all the services and the infrastructure underneath to build, so you can just plug in here. That’s what we’re trying to do, trying to kind of give the distribution here, give the platform underneath and let developers build.”
According to the co-founder, the framework aimed for a 10x growth on key metrics last year. These include the number of transactions, monthly active wallets, projects onboarded, builders, and investments made within the environment. The protocol competes with Ethereum by providing a proof-of-stake blockchain and smart contract functionality.
Poloshukhin claims that a lot of game developers decided to migrate their projects to Near. “They came to us, some of them because they saw you can write in JavaScript smart contracts. That’s like three times cheaper to hire developers. This is just more usable not just for users, but for developers as well.”
Humanitarian Efforts by Near and the Unchain Fund
Polosukhin, one of the developers behind the Unchain Fund, initiated a fundraising campaign last year to support war-affected Ukrainians. The fund had received approximately $9 million in donations at the start of 2023, almost completely in crypto assets. He claimed that the cash obtained was essential to helping the Ukrainian people during the early stages of the conflict when aid from abroad was still delayed:
“The Red Cross, UNICEF, they take months to spin up all of their systems when something happens, that’s just that’s how they are. They’re slow […] but when they get there, they have the procedure, and they set it up, they build the supply chain, logistics, and then they can start delivering. So, in a way, crypto funds covered in the beginning, like spin-up time for similar government aid.”
A portion of the resources received went towards a program that gives weekly compensation of 25 euros to about 6,000 Ukrainian women who leave their homes with kids. Ambulances were also purchased with the money, thanks to the global United24 campaign.
More About Near Protocol and BOS
According to data from Messari, the Near protocol is currently the 35th-largest blockchain regarding market valuation. At the time of writing, the market capitalization of Layer 1 was approximately $1.96 billion. Moreover, the NEAR token was trading for about $2.28.
In the press release, the platform is referred to as a “blockchain operating system (BOS)”. We are shifting our attention away from layer 1 and onto the user and their engagement. This is what we see as the general interface for blockchains.
The goal of Near has been to get 1 billion people to the Open Web since it started. The first stage in the process was to build a best-in-class L1 blockchain that was simple to use and easy to develop.
Near works with the idea to providing a customizable account format and human-readable accounts. This offers users the freedom to choose any name they want rather than a string of letters and numbers. Also, the Near blockchain is a secure and eternally scalable platform thanks to the Nightshade sharding technique. At the same time, Near focused on developing the technology to help builders who were implementing the protocol. These include the JavaScript SDK, which is now available to 15 million developers.
The efforts gave birth to a vibrant Near environment with more than 23 million accounts and more than 1,000 project structures. Near is building the Web3 stack to bring together experiences from all over the open web and make it easier for both users and developers to get started.
