18-Year-Old Pro Gamer ‘Mongraal’ Sells Dookey Dash NFT Key for $1.63 Million
The Dookey Dash NFT competition by Yuga Labs is finally over and the winner had made quite a bank. We have seen traditional esports stars making their way into the competitive scene of Web3. Fortnite esports star Mongraal was the winner of Dookey Dash key NFT and eventually sold it for $1.63 million. Kyle Mongraal Jackson sold the NFT key to a billionaire entrepreneur Adam Weitsman for 1000 ETH. However, the professional gamer wanted to sell the NFT for 3333 ETH which in USD is $5.43 million. This whole NFT episode affirms that NFTs are surely down but not out at the moment. Dookey Dash Key NFT is associated with Bored Ape Yacht Club who has had a history of popular NFTs.
For the last two months, Yuga Labs, the firm responsible for BAYC, has been testing a new approach to NFT minting by incorporating games and storytelling. The experiment takes the form of a narrative called “The Trial of Jimmy the Monkey,” which kicked off in December with a brief video. In this storyline, Jimmy triggers a time-space rift when he takes an unexpected bathroom break, releasing an out-of-time ape who presents him with a mysterious key. Unfortunately, Jimmy swallows it by mistake and rushes to the bathroom to try to expel it, only to faint instead.
Dookey Dash NFT key Rush Started with Sewer Pass NFTs
Consequently, the game titled “Dookey Dash,” an endless runner game, made online. Holders of Bored Ape Yacht Club NFTs got a Sewer Pass NFT, which allowed them to participate in Dookey Dash. In the game, players assume the role of an ape traversing through a sewer system in an attempt to locate Jimmy and retrieve the key from his rear end, for real. The Sewer Pass NFTs were in high demand, selling for thousands of dollars. Since January 16th, we saw the volume crossing $65 million.
The Dookey Dash Competition
The Dookey Dash game competition was on for three weeks. It eventually ended on February 8th, with undisclosed rewards awarded to players with high scores. Not surprisingly, a pro gamer locked the highest score, an 18-year-old British gamer known as Kyle “Mongraal” Jackson. He is famous for his Fortnite live streams. On February 15th, Mongraal’s Sewer Pass NFT was converted into a key, the same key extracted from Jimmy’s butt.
Yuga Labs Dookey Dash NFT Sold
Mongraal declared his intention to sell the key NFT on Monday for 1,000 ether, which is presently valued at $1.6 million. The esports professional tweeted, that he has consented to sell the key for 1000 ETH to @AdamWeitsman. He’s an incredibly nice person, and I’m happy that we sell the NFT key to him.
He further added, “A special thank you to Yuga Labs for hosting an incredible competition. I look forward to competing in future events. Royalties will be paid in full.”
As a result, Yuga Labs, the creators of “Dookey Dash,” will earn a significant amount of money from the sale in the form of royalties, specifically 5% of the total sale, amounting to 50 ETH or $81,500.
Mongraal sought the assistance of an online personality known as “Tre,” a co-founder of the NFT community Underground, and a Stanford graduate, to assist him with the sale.
More About the NFT Bid
The UpDAO, a Web3 community, submitted a bid of 690 WETH (approximately $1.1 million) for the key NFT last week. 9GAG, a popular meme website, later made a bid of 999 ETH on the NFT key. But was ultimately outbid by Weitsman, who currently showcases a Bored Ape Yacht Club (BAYC) NFT as his Twitter profile picture.
Weitsman is primarily famous for his scrap metal enterprises and extensive social media presence. What many don’t know is that he also has an interest in cryptocurrency and established a crypto mining venture, Viridium, in 2021.
Nonfungible tokens (NFTs) are blockchain-based tokens that serve as proof of ownership for digital assets. It is similar to what a land deed does for physical property. NFTs aim to establish ownership of digital goods, and most NFT transactions involve the sale of profile pictures, such as those of the Bored Ape Yacht Club. These pictures act similar to digital Rolex watches. Moreover, people frequently purchase them for investment purposes.
