The ongoing upward trend was evident in all devices that are PC, mobile, and game consoles. The fastest growth was witnessed in consoles with an increase earning of 18% over 2019. This surprising growth is exceptional in every way because all of the major titles of holiday season 2020 were set to release in November except Call of Duty: Modern Warfare that got launched in October. Talking about other devices, we have an increase of 10% on PC and 15% in mobile game spending in October.
The game which topped the highest-grossing chart is the Genshin Impact from miHoYo. This game was released at the end of September on PS4, PC, and mobile. The game was made by a Chinese developer and got tremendous success and was lauded worldwide. Genshin Impact made a winning combo by integrating the role-playing game style of console and action-adventure titles.
Next, we have Ubisoft’s Watch Dogs: Legion which broke the franchise’s own record by selling 1.9M units. The numbers are outstanding given that it was on sale for mere three days at the end of October. Watch Dogs: Legion saw a significant increase in sales when compared to its predecessor which was released in November 2016 and sold 431K digital units.
Other notable titles that added their share in October sales were Crash Bandicoot 4: It’s About Time which sold 402K digital units and Star Wars: Squadrons sold 1.1M digital units.
