Newzoo Mobile Game Report: Cutting Edge Mobile Games Popularity Surging Worldwide.
According to a recent report published by Newzoo, high-end mobile games are gaining the majority share in the revenue. The report suggests that graphically intensive and complex games now make more than one-third of revenue in Europe and North America.
The report is known as “Next-Gen Mobile Games” and was published by Newzoo in collaboration with Arm earlier this week. The report focused on mobile gaming and its increasing popularity worldwide. The mobile gaming titles it focused on are high-end games that require a lot from hardware as well as players. The report referred to such games as “high-fidelity”, games that “feature advance graphics and/or complex mechanics and gameplay”. These games may include MMOs, 3D shooters, MOBAs, 3D strategy games, and other core games.
The report examined the high fidelity growth rate in gaming markets of Europe, North America, and China since 2016. The report suggests that in 2016, high-fidelity games generated 42% of total revenue from 200 top-grossing iOS games. However, the numbers increased significantly last year where it accounted for 70%.

In 2016 high-fidelity games in Europe contributed 7% while the North American market showed 6%, however, last year it increased to 37% and 33% respectively.
Newzoo’s China market analyst Tianyi Gu said, “In mature mobile games markets like China, high-fidelity mobile games have already hit the mainstream, we believe that in the next couple of years, emerging markets and Western countries will play an increasingly important role in driving the growth of high-fidelity or next-gen mobile games. In particular, the West is likely to follow China in shifting tastes more toward mid-core and core games as the young mobile-first generation matures.”
With the shortage and increasing prices of high-end GPUs, more and more top titles will make their way to mobile gaming in the coming years.
