Capcom Ransomware Attack has Compromised Personal Information of more than 350,000 People!
Looks like the gossips and news about the cyber-attack on Capcom were true. Ladies and gentlemen, Capcom has officially confirmed that it was a victim of a ransomware attack earlier this month. The attack resulted in sensitive information being compromised, information included employee personal information, the company’s sensitive data, financial information, and much more.
In an official press-release today, Capcom revealed that the ransomware attack took place on November 2nd, 2020 and the organization behind the attack was Ragnar Locker. The attacker demanded heavy ransom money to release the encrypted data on the company servers.
Capcom confirmed that nine of their current and previous employees’ personal information got compromised in the attack. Moreover, the attack also got hold of sales data and other financial reports.
More personal information of more than 350,000 business partners, customers, and former employees may have been compromised. Talking about current employees, more than 14000 current employees’ personal information is at stake. The most important data that has been compromised is the confidential corporate files but it is yet to be confirmed by Capcom.
A sigh of relief for the customers is that none of the compromised data included credit card information. However, Capcom is still in the process of conducting a full-scale investigation to assess the amount of data that has been compromised. Moreover, Capcom has also decided to further tighten its cyber-security to make its server more secure.
Capcom has also alerted the Osaka police about the cyber-attack in the hope to get some help to get out of this predicament.
Lastly, the company winded up by addressing its consumers that they can continue to play on their servers and it is safe to connect to their websites and games. Capcom also confirmed that it will contact those who are affected by the attack to let them know of the situation and share detail specific details about their respected compromised data.
We hope that Capcom recovers from this horrendous cyber-attack and the perpetrators will be brought to justice.
