Facebook Cloud Gaming! Social media tech giant Facebook is all set to enter the uncharted lands of cloud gaming but Facebook’s approach is a lot different when compared to its competitors like Amazon’s Luna and Google. Facebook is offering cloud games to its existing app and several of its games are playable right now.
Facebook’s Vice President of play, Jason Rubin said, “We’re doing free-to-play games, we’re doing games that are latency-tolerant, at least to start,” he took shots at competitors and added, “We’re not promising 4K, 60fps, so you pay us $6.99 per month.
We’re not trying to get you to buy a piece of hardware, like a controller.”
Facebook entered the world of games with quite a lot of success when it comes to popularity and instant games like flash-based Farmville. Despite these games being simpler and limited in experience yet Facebook’s experiment in the gaming world was a success.
Now, Facebook has decided to move towards more complex games with help of cloud gaming.
Rubin further added, “The platform is going to allow the 300 million players that we have to continue to play the games they like, but we think they’ll branch out and play more complex games as well.” The games were launched yesterday in beta version and the initial titles are Mobile Legends: Adventure, 3D racer, Asphalt 9.
The interesting thing here is Facebook’s approach and philosophy to cloud gaming.
Rather than hyping up its technology and securing big game titles they instead have resorted to easy to play and easy to pick simple titles that can make your day exciting and keep you engaged.
Moreover, Rubin is positive that Facebook’s cloud gaming will grow to a point where they would shift to exclusive titles and more. He reiterated, “We’re not trying to lock people in. We don’t need to because we’re not charging a fee to try these games and you’re on Facebook already.
An exclusive in the classic sense — i.e. you can only play this game on the platform — probably doesn’t make sense for us.”
